Bad Weather Blamed for Ghana’s Helicopter Crash
Govt of Ghana
Two of the helicopter crash victims: Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment and Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defense.
The committee charged with investigating the cause of the helicopter crash in August that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaian officials has concluded that bad weather conditions caused the accident.
Presenting their report to President John Mahama, the investigation committee said the helicopter was otherwise in good condition and had received a "90-day service threshold extension" with the manufacturer’s approval before the incident.
A spokesperson for the committee said the accident was caused by the "sudden loss of altitude and lift due to downdraft," and recommended that the Air Force be expanded "immediately".
