Guinea Junta Leader Mamady Doumbouya Wins Presidential Election

Guinea coup leader â Mamady Doumbouya has been elected president, according to provisional results, following the country’s first election since a military takeover in 2021.
Doumbouya won by 86.72% of the vote, according to the General Directorate of Elections.
Major opposition figures were either barred or were in exile, leaving a fragmented field with no strong challengers. Opposition leaders had called for a boycott of the vote. The Supreme Court has eight days to validate the results in the event of a challenge.
