UNHCR ‘Fails’ Sudanese Refugees As Egypt Deportations Surge

A joint investigation by The New Humanitarian and Refugees Platform in Egypt in 2024 revealed that more Sudanese refugees fled the world’s largest humanitarian crisis to seek safety in Egypt.
Refugees have experienced arrests, forced deportations, and the closure of community schools. The UN’s refugee agency, UNHCR, is not effectively challenging the crackdown. Instead, it prioritizes maintaining good relations with the government over defending refugee rights.
