The electoral commission is calling on Congolese who are registered for the country’s upcoming presidential election to visit administrative districts and verify that their names are listed on the provisional voter’s roll. Banners have been placed across parts of Brazzaville, emphasizing the importance of the process.
President Denis Sassou Nguesso, 81, is widely expected to seek another term in the 2026 election, following a constitutional change in 2015 that removed the 70-year age limit. Nguesso has served two non-consecutive periods as president of the Central African nation: from 1979 to 1992, and then from 1997 to the present.
