Botswana Benefits From India’s Support To Ease Health Crisis

India has offered to help Botswana address the acute shortage of essential medicines in the Southern African nation. The announcement was made by President Duma Boko during a media briefing with visiting Indian President Droupadi Murmu. Botswana has been dealing with a health crisis, with the availability of essential medicines reported to be as low as 36%.

President Boko declared a public health emergency in August, calling on the military to help oversee the supply chain as the government enforces a multimillion-dollar health plan.

The Southern African nation has been grappling with an economic crisis, caused by a downturn in the international diamond market. Diamonds are Botswana’s main export.
