Ever-increasing security challenges in Nigeria, like the mass school abductions of hundreds of students and staff in Kebbi and Niger states, have sparked national outrage and calls for urgent action to protect schools and release victims safely. The Kebbi civil society coalition condemned the abductions as attacks on education and demanded stronger protection and psychological support for affected families. Meanwhile, Lagos police intensified security around schools and worship centres after a surge in abductions and vehicle theft linked to new employees as Nigeria’s Senate President unveiled a five-year counter-terrorism plan.
