A new report has highlighted the continuing challenges faced by several East African countries in the aftermath of the five-year drought that affected the region.

The report, Climate Finance for Just Transition: How the Finance Flows, authored by ActionAid, pointed out that despite occasional rainfall in parts of Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia, the countries remain stuck in a prolonged cycle of failed rainy seasons, livestock losses, and worsening food insecurity.

The report noted that more than 1.8 million people in Kenya are currently enduring acute food shortages, while more than 3.4 million people in Somalia face high levels of food insecurity. In Ethiopia, 10.2 million are cited to be severely food insecure.

ActionAid has warned that despite worsening humanitarian needs across East Africa and the broader Global South, global attention and funding remain minimal.
