A group of health workers under the aegis of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Nigerian government to implement an adjusted consolidated salary structure, warning that otherwise they will go on strike.

The union accused the government of insensitivity and discrimination in handling the welfare concerns of its members, despite several agreements and presidential assurances. The leadership of JOHESU said government representatives have not given the group the due attention it deserves, unlike the treatment given to other medical unions.

This ultimatum comes at a time when the Nigerian health sector is already under severe strain, as hospitals face widespread disruption due to the indefinite strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors.
